Made in Moradabad: The Metalcraft Behind Copper Master

Step inside Copper Master's Moradabad metalworking process—from sheet selection and lathe spinning to hand-hammering, engraving, Kalai tin-lining, and damage-proof transit packaging.

A Living Craft Ecosystem: Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh (known globally as Peetal Nagri or Brass City) has sustained hereditary metalworking communities for centuries. At Copper Master, we treat that heritage not as a romantic marketing backdrop, but as a practical sequence of metallurgical skills, specialized hand tools, and workshop standards.

The 10-Step Handcrafted Journey

1️⃣

Material Selection & Traceability

Production begins with virgin rolling-mill metal selected for the intended vessel geometry. Pure electrolytic copper circles are graded for drinking water vessels, while CuZn37 brass sheets are chosen for dining thalis. Batches are cataloged with Supplier Mill Test Certificates.

2️⃣

Precision Circle Cutting

Metal sheets are sheared into circular blanks tailored to the target vessel diameter, wall thickness, and depth. Accurate blank dimensions prevent uneven wall thinning during subsequent stretching.

3️⃣

Forming & Lathe Spinning

Artisans mount the blank on traditional wood or steel chucks on a spinning lathe. Using heavy steel forming levers, the craftsperson gradually raises the flat disk into the curved silhouette of a matka, jug, or bottle body.

4️⃣

Artisanal Hand-Hammering

Heirloom water dispensers and matkas receive their distinctive dimpled texture through controlled manual hammer strikes. Each impact work-hardens the malleable copper, dramatically increasing its structural rigidity and surface area.

5️⃣

Etching & Embossed Motifs

Decorative collections feature floral, geometric, or mandala patterns. Traditional hand-chasing tools or precision photochemical etching are chosen depending on the fine linework required.

6️⃣

Fittings, Seams & Tap Alignment

For water dispensers, the tap mounting port is reinforced and threaded. Dispensing taps are fitted with food-grade silicone washers to guarantee a watertight seal without over-stressing the vessel wall.

7️⃣

Kalai Tin Lining (Where Required)

Traditional cookware and selected brass vessels are hand-lined with pure molten tin (Kalai) over open charcoal hearths with sal ammoniac flux. Drinkware intended strictly for plain drinking water remains unlined pure copper.

8️⃣

Polishing & Surface Finishing

Cotton buffing wheels and jeweller's rouge bring the raw beaten metal to a mirror, satin, or antique finish. Subtle hand-worked variations in hammer reflection confirm genuine craftsmanship.

9️⃣

Quality Inspection & Pressure Leak Gate

Every finished dispenser is filled with water for a multi-hour pressure and tap-seal test before packaging. Lids are checked for secure closure and base stability is verified on level marble surfaces.

🔟

Shock-Absorbent Packaging

Heavy metal vessels require specialized protection against parcel transit stresses. High-density EPS foam cushions, reinforced inner cartons, and double-walled outer corrugated shippers ensure pristine arrival.
